The thread is for prehistoric and extant bear fossil discussion:
source:Fossol bear from Langebaanweg,Cape Province,South Africa

Related to this:
"One of the ulna's belonging to the Arctotherium angustidens specimen was intact-and 570 mm long. That bear was huge."
"... the largest Arctodus simus ulna yet found was 591 mm long."
See "THE LARGEST KNOWN BEAR, ARCTOTHERIUM ANGUSTIDENS, FROM THE EARLY PLEISTOCENE PAMPEAN REGION OF ARGENTINA: WITH A DISCUSSION OF SIZE AND DIET TRENDS IN BEARS", published in Journal of Paleontology, 85(1), 2011, p. 69–75.

,I mean the brown bear given by the authors to compare with the Agriotherium. the 63802 ;D
I would like the read the rest of the article.
The explanation for Table 4 may be a bit confusing. Only the first specimen is from Langebaanweg. Ursus arctos (CFM 63802) is from Mother Goose Lake, Alaska, USA. It is a coastal brown bear (Ursus arctos gyas).
See image.
is there any bigger record of brown bear 'ulna?
The picture is taken by me in the libriary.
As far as cave bears go, the longest ulna I could find is 425.5 mm long. It was found in Zoolithen cave in Burggailenreuth, Germany.

Tabelle Datenmatrix Ulna

The cave bear'ulna is known to be relative short.
Is there any longer ulnas of Agriotherium or Indarctos?
Authors, titles, years of publications, journal name and details if applicable.
I would really like to read the articles or books where this interesting information was taken from.
Thanks.

what is the longgest ulna of Ursus arctos and Ursus spelaeus?I remember there is a big brown bear whose ulna is 450mm(CfM 63802)

An interesting question, I'll have to try and find the answers.

As far as I know, the specimen you are referring to from Langebaanweg was an Agriotherium Africanum with an ulna length > 252 mm. Certainly big, but not gigantic.
See shaggygod.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=africapliocene&action=print&thread=754
Of course, I don't refer to that Agriotherium africanum(252+)

So the the this brown bear 'ulna is larger then any Ursus maritimus.

I know the Agriotherium africanum'ulna is 416mm.

duanmianxiong, you are very lucky to have access to a library. Would you give us citations for your Reply 11, 12 and 18, please?
