A while back I mentioned a Yosemite National Park employee, Jeffrey Trust, who has a passion for bears. He recently posted photographs of bear damage to a car that left food in the back seat (which can get you fined in Yosemite and isn’t smart to do in any park where there are bears). Here are two of Trust’s photos – look closely and you’ll see that the bear took out both rear windows. Other photos show the bear sat on the top of the car munching down on whatever was in the yellow box. abrblog.wordpress.com/2009/09/17/bear-damage-photos/

October, 31 2012......The bear killed Tuesday night was an adult male that Coltrane estimates weighed between 700-800 pounds. Biologists said they believe it had attacked at least three garage doors and side doors in the Stuckagain Heights area in recent days, causing thousands of dollars of property damage. A bear trying to break down garage doors is "very unusual," Coltrane said. Three little bear cubs found in back seat of car A Colorado town has issued a bear warning to its residents after three cubs were photographed rummaging around inside a car. A woman spotted three of the bears and their larger mother when she went to her car in a parking lot in Snowmass Village on Saturday. The mother bear ran away, but when local police arrived they found three cubs still inside the car. Police believe the group of bears have broken into 14 cars recently. Kevin Wright from Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the mother bear's spree began a week ago when it got inside a vehicle that had food inside.
"We're trying to get a hold of her before she breaks into any homes," Mr Wright said. The mother bear has gained entry mostly through unlocked car doors, but at least two cars have been damaged as a result. "Please lock your cars and try to clean all traces of food out of them," the Snowmass Village Transportation Department said. "These cute little guys' lives depend on you to act responsibly in bear country." arbroath.blogspot.com/2012/07/three-little-bear-cubs-found-in-back.html

Young male bear shot and killed after breaking into outdoor freezer in West Vancouver A four-year-old bear was shot and killed by a Conservation Officer in West Vancouver on Tuesday after he broke in to a garage and started eating out of a freezer. Police say they were called to the 200-block of Onslow Place in the British Properties because two bears had broken through the side door to the garage, pried open a chest freezer and begun eating. The officers used air horns on their police vehicles to frighten the bears back into the woods. They then called the BC Conservation Officer Service and an officer arrived and attempted to trap the bears for relocation. Meanwhile the homeowner arranged for workers to come and install a temporary cover for the damaged doorway. While they were there and the Conservation Officer was preparing a trap, one of the bears returned. He approached the area where the workers were installing the door and police said this raised immediate concern for their safety. The bear was shot and killed.West Vancouver Police, the Conservation Officer Service and the North Shore Black Bear Society are urging all residents to ensure their properties are free of attractants to bears. Storing food in garages or outbuildings should be avoided if odours from the food can escape the enclosure and if doors to any enclosure are not strong enough to be bear resistant. Police are also warning residents that bears naturally become more active every year at this time. Helping keep bears from perceiving your home or property as a food source is vitally important for safety of the public and the bears. globalnews.ca/news/1415059/young-male-bear-shot-and-killed-after-breaking-into-outdoor-freezer-in-west-vancouver/
