This skull measuring box is made of machined aluminum and measures 24.5” long x 8” wide x 6.75” high. A ruler (See photos.) is built into the base of the scoring box that allows for accurate measurements to the nearest one sixteenth of an inch. In addition, the inside measuring surfaces of both uprights are machined with matching hash marks (See photos.) to assist with leveling a skull. This skull scoring box can be used to measure the largest brown bear skulls.

Compared to the present day/near extinct brown bear population of Italy, earlier fossil evidence of a larger form of Italian brown bear. Anthropogenic forces in play resulting in not only a dwindling European brown bear population, but also a diminution in physical stature. Nice find...thank you for sharing.

"...We learned that the big skull I found was a very old and large sow. Her molars were very worn down and John estimates that she was 12 to 13 when she died. She measured around 24 1/2 which is very large for a sow. The cub skull that I found nearby (see bottom photo) was probably her cub and both were killed at the same time by a large boar
Mark's big boar turned out to be HUGE. It measured 29 1/8 which would put it in the record book..."
